We all would rather be outside and exploring than reading lengthy product reviews so here is our quick review of a simple, but awesome product: the NEMO Chipper Seat Pad (“NEMO Chipper” for short).

What is it?

In short, a foam seat pad for just about anything. This seat pad is lightweight and easily packed with its accordion fold structure. The NEMO Chipper is designed to provide protection from wet, cold or dirty surfaces when on your outdoor adventures. One of the coolest things about this pad? It is made entirely out of reclaimed and remolded polyethylene foam scraps!

When do we use it?

The NEMO Chipper can be used for hiking, gardening, travel, outdoor events, travel, and sporting events. We primarily use these pads as on-the-go seats when hiking. Our kids often ask for breaks when hiking and there isn’t always a convenient bench or log to rest so the NEMO Chipper is a perfect solution.  

What do we think?

We LOVE them. NEMO did a great job with these simple pads and here is why. First, they are the perfect size. Not too big, nor too small. Both kid and adult bottoms fit nicely on the pad making them great for our entire crew.

They are also SUPER lightweight, making them easy to stick in the kids’ packs. Recently when hiking the kids carry their Camelbak Kids Mini M.U.L.E. filled with water, a few snacks, and their NEMO Chipper. The accordion fold and the hexagonal nesting shape provide a comfortable sitting surface and optimized packing size. The NEMO Chipper also has a removable loop for hanging or securing in place.

But maybe my favorite thing about them is how they literally saved our bottoms this rainy, winter flag football season. The NEMO Chipper was perfect for the wet bleachers. Our bottoms were kept warm and dry from the cold, wet bleachers as we sat watching our son play for hours every Sunday rain or shine. Again, the hexagonal node contours kept us away from not only the wetness, but the freezing metal of the bleachers.
