Wolf House Historic Trail at Jack London State Historic Park
Trail Summary: This trail offers a unique blend of nature and history, taking you through the remnants of Jack London’s dream home, the Wolf House.
🥾 Trail: Wolf House Historic Trail, Jack London State Historic Park (Glen Ellen/Sonoma)
🅿️ Fee: $10 and Open Daily 9 am–5 pm
🦮 Friendly: Allowed in designated historic areas including the Beauty Ranch area and on the trail to Wolf House Ruins but NOT on any other trails.
📅 Best times to visit: Year round but the fall is my personal favorite with foliage.
📏 Difficulty: Easy. Approximately 1.5 miles
🏔️ Elevation: ~200 ft.
👧 👦 ♿️ friendly: Golf cart service is scheduled on weekends from noon to 4 pm for visitors needing assistance. Kid friendly easy trails and fun to explore and walk around the Wolf house.
🙋♂️ What the heck is this place? Jack London’s dream house built in 1911 and destroyed by fire in 1913. It was to be a 15k sqft, 26 room, $75K house, estimated to be cost nearly $2M in today’s values.
🎒 Gear: Very wide trails with paved paths leave this as a trail with minimal special equipment required!
🕶️ Shade: Mostly shaded with beautiful redwood tree coverage.
🛂 Tips: Start early to avoid crowds. I absolutely recommend combining this with the Sonoma Botanical Gardens (review of it is further down my feed). Extend the hike a bit by viewing Jack London’s grave.
